The book Mirror Beware tells the story of a young girl who is in and out of foster care and group homes, after her mother looses custody due to her drug and alcohol abuse. Toni has to fend for herself in the group home while she encounters girls who hate her because she stays to herself and she is pretty.
Her one desire is to play basketball with the WNBA. In high school, She meets and falls in love with a Nigerian basketball player who is later drafted into the NBA. I like this book, because it shows how the children of drug abusers are effected by their parents’ lifestyles. Toni goes through a series of personal problems that she has to work through. There are a lot of young people who are dealing with these issues everyday. They need inspiration. I would have liked to see more dialogue. Also more about the Money Mike character. I found myself sympathizing with Toni in the beginning chapters, but by the end my sympathy had shifted to Money Mike. More detail about him would have made that part more interesting. Overall I liked the story.
