This is a short story about two boys B and K who live in the hood. They take a bus ride to visit a friend across town. The two boys discover the differences between their neighborhood and their friend’s neighborhood. Many of the issues they deal with on a daily basis are not an issue in this neighborhood. Life is a series of choices that B and K have to make which lead them to their destiny.
This book was very enlightening about the problems and choices young Black males have to make while trying to live and survive in the hood. I liked it because B and K face many of the challenges that other teenagers face in Milwaukee and other urban areas. This book deals with identity issues and environmental problems that put many young people at risk for the many the social ills that plague our cities and neighborhoods. The author is a young Black male and is very involved in the community.
I liked the story. The author uses a lot of narration. More dialogue would help the reader visualize the character’s and their personalities and deepen understanding of why they make the choices they do.
